Welcome
Hello! I'm Ava Rectenbaugh, owner of the Wise Farm herd. We're located in SW Iowa and I have been raising goats for over 12 years, having seriously gotten into the business for it in 2020.
Our Story
My obsession with goats all started with a little Toggenburg/Fainter cross doe called Tina. She was the first birth I witnessed and she started me down this path of chaos. From Fainters and Toggenburgs we moved to Nubians. Why? I don't remember, but I picked out our first buck, Frontier Nubians Joey (I called him Spooky as he was shy). Our Nubian herd grew after renting him out and receiving a doeling in payment for two consecutive years. Jewel (2016) and Mocha (2015) got me hooked on Nubians and I've never looked back.
Jewel unfortunately passed in 2020 due to issues during kidding, and had produced only bucks at that point, leaving us with no offspring from her. Mocha was euthanized the next year due to yet another kidding issue, but left behind a legacy in her 2017 triplets who are the cornerstone of my herd today.
I've made a few purchases of does and some bucks since then, and hope to continue to grow my herd and bloodlines. These guys have given me a wealth of stories to tell and laugh about and lots of memories to look back on fondly (or not-so-fondly in the case of Jerry...) and I cannot imagine a farm without them.
